Dr. Winifred Mak MD PhD
My hometown:
I’m a transplant from Egham, England but have lived in the USA since 2004. I have called San Francisco, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New Haven and now Austin my home.
My Education and Medical Training:
I graduated from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St. Thomas Hospitals, University of London in 1997 and trained as an Obstetrics and Gynecology resident in Cambridge and London for 2 years. Due to my passion to become a physician scientist, I did a PhD in Genetics at Imperial College, London.
I moved to USA in 2004 for love, as my husband wanted us to start a life together where his family were based. I repeated my Ob Gyn residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and then completed an Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Due to my other love for helping patients through my research, I was recruited to Yale School Of Medicine to be one of their prestigious NIH Women’s Reproductive Health Scholars. During this time, I became the Director of the Yale Recurrent Pregnancy Loss center and ever since then my clinical practice has focused on helping families with recurrent pregnancy loss. I was recently recruited to lead the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility sub specialty in the Women’s Health Dept. at Dell Medical School, UT Austin. I also serve as the Director of the Early Pregnancy Loss Program at UT Health Austin in Austin. I see a broad spectrum of patients including infertility however, my expertise is in recurrent pregnancy loss. I also have several ongoing research projects to understand unexplained pregnancy loss which I hope to share with the pregnancy loss community soon.
